Three Layer Mineral Felt System
Three layer felt roof systems, also known as ‘torch on’ or ‘torch down’ roofing, uses what’s known as a hot installation technique. This involves using propane gas to melt-weld three different layers of modified bitumen felt together. The layered weld creates a waterproof seal for your new roof.

Step by Step Installation Process
1. Strip Existing Roof
We’ll begin by stripping the roof down to the rafters. Once that’s finished, we’ll take the older material away in our vans, or we may need a skip where there’s a large roof. Next we'll evaluate the rafters' integrity, to see if we need to change them.
2. Changing Rafters
If we need to change them, we’ll secure the standard 6 x 2 rafter beams 18 inches apart during replacement. On top of the rafters, we’ll fix the firring (or battening). This form of structural support gives your flat roof a slight incline so that all water runs toward the gutters.
3. Choose Your Roof Type
Speak to our team about choosing a warm deck flat roof or a cold deck flat roof. If you live in a particularly cool area of Kent, consider the warm deck roof, which consists of three layers. The cold deck roof comes with two layers and a ventilation gap to help reduce damp and mould.
4. Pick Your Finish
Finally, choose a finish for your flat roof. We offer the three layer mineral felt system and the Cure It GRP system. The three layer system is a hot installation of two layers of underlay and a layer of mineral felt. The Cure It GRP system is a cold installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is your installation affected by the weather?
Yes. We may not be able to install your new flat roof in extreme weather conditions. When you speak to our team, they’ll be able to talk to you about your next installation.
What is a flat roof system?
Flat roofs are different from other pitched roofs because they typically have an incline of 10° and lower. Of course, they need to have some level of incline to help drainage, which is why we install firring when we replace or install new flat roofs.
What is the lifespan of a flat roof?
Both the three layer mineral system and the Cure It fibreglass flat roof system can last up to 20 years without issue. Speak to our team about warranties on our roofing systems.
