Step by Step Roof Installation
1. Assessing Your Roof
Customers who are planning to move from slate roofs to tiles may need additional supporting timber. The supportive battening helps account for the additional weight to prevent damage to your roof.
2. Scaffolding & Skip
Before starting any work, we will erect scaffolding for health and safety. Scaffolding is included in your re-roofing quote. We’ll also deliver a skip and material conveyor to help remove the old roof materials.
3. Stripping Your Roof
We pull off materials like tiles, slate, battens and felt. The chute and skip are integral to keeping these materials out of your way and maintaining a neat space.
4. Battening & Ventilation
We use treated wood for battening, which improves the longevity and water resistance of the roof. We then place a ventilation membrane on top, which helps prevent water ingress and reduces mould.
5. Laying Roof Tiles or Slate
Next, we’ll affix your tile or slating to the battening. Look through our catalogue of Redland & Marley products. Please note that weather may play a part in our re-roofing installation.
6. Roof Ridge
We use two different methods for fixing the ridge: Mortar or Dry Fix. Mortar is a traditional method that is commonly used. Dry Fix is a newer system that uses mechanical fixings to keep the roof highly ventilated.
7. Insulation & Tidying
We'll add insulation after installing all the roofing as per building regulations. Finally, we’ll tidy up, dismantle our scaffolding, and make sure that all the last pieces of roofing are taken to the skip.
